Ferrari 308 GTB (rally)

Ferrari never ran a works rally team, but privately entered 308 GTBs added colour to the asphalt rallies of the early Group B years, and one of them came within a step of victory in Corsica in 1982.

The Pozzi car

The best-known rally 308s were entered by Charles Pozzi, Ferrari’s importer in France. With Jean-Claude Andruet and ‘Biche’ (Michèle Petit), the Pozzi 308 GTB finished second on the 1982 Tour de Corse, behind Jean Ragnotti’s Renault 5 Turbo: the best world championship result for a Ferrari.

Other entries

Jonkka’s World Rally Archive lists several other private 308 GTBs between 1982 and 1985, mostly on the Monte Carlo, Corsica and Sanremo rallies. In 1983 Björn Waldegård entered one on the Rallye Sanremo but did not finish.

Ferrari’s own Group B car

Ferrari’s own Group B homologation car, the 288 GTO, was never developed into a rally car.

The 308s raced under the Group 4 and then Group B rules; the details of their homologation and preparation (often attributed to Michelotto) are not documented in the sources used for this page.

European and national championships

The 308 GTB had its best results in European and national rallies: Jean-Claude Andruet won the 1982 Tour de France Automobile in Charles Pozzi’s car, Tonino Tognana won Italian rounds in 1982 on his way to the Italian title, and Antonio Zanini won the 1984 Spanish championship in one.
